Upcoming Event I hope to make an appearance at the Ottawa Romance Book Fair, when a date is officially announced for 2027. This is a one-day event held at the Conference Centre, so check back soon for updates.
Las Vegas has everything to offer an adult: gambling, bright lights, loads of travelers, plenty of booze, shopping and even more gambling, not to mention being able to smoke indoors in the casinos and drink openly in the streets. There are escorts aplenty for those looking to get their end wet, and a plethora of casinos that come equipped with other attractions like roller-coasters, theme parks and long-standing special guests who perform regularly.
You won't get bored.
What Las Vegas doesn't have is the encouragement to get your recommended zzz's every day, that is to say a good night's sleep because the trend is to sleep in until past Noon, to lose at least half the day, in order that you can go gallivanting well into the wee hours of the morning. I experienced this when I spent seven days in Las Vegas with a friend/colleague. We drank far too much, stayed up late every night, and invited strange, newly made friends back to our condo suite at The Flamingo Las Vegas Hotel to party — you may blame it on the volume of red and white wine, and the fact that it was New Year's Eve. My friend and I did our best to see and do as much as we could, to wring out as much as humanly possible during our stay. I believe we had succeeded in our quest.
We also took a side-trip to experience the Grand Canyon, though I didn't attempt to climb out of the canyon, as so many do.
We didn't gamble much, truth be told. I've tried hard to get excited about gambling but there's something disquieting about watching my hard earned dollars get whisked away by some professional dealer. That being said, I threw open my snap purse one afternoon, while my friend nursed her hangover, and I played several hours at the Caribbean Stud poker table. I started out with $40 dollars and soon crawled up to the $150, before I began plying myself with gin and tonics, then lost every penny. 😆Losing $150 at a poker table in Las Vegas is considered chicken feed. I sat next to two gentlemen who owned several retirement homes and they were betting $100 bills as though these dollars were mere pennies. Later, my friend and I tried out Keno and the slots whilst drinking $1 Margaritas at the Casino Royale Hotel. There are so many casinos built in such grandiose style that you could spend an entire three days alone, just visiting, to observe the architecture of casinos. Some of the casinos stretch on for blocks, in some cases over a mile long with enough stores inside to leave your head spinning.
Everyone should visit Las Vegas once in their lifetime, like I did. I don't ordinarily visit the same city or country twice because the world is a big place, and I've a finite amount of time and money, so I choose my next place to visit very carefully, after much consideration and research — the goal is to select some new place. Typically, I'll return home from a trip feeling refreshed and alive, and more so if the food is excellent, which I found to be the case in Las Vegas, given the expensive surroundings of some casinos. But we deviated from the norm to celebrate our New Year's Eve. We ended up off the Strip, you could say off the beaten track, when we booked our meal at Batista's Hole-in-the-Wall, an Italian eatery that offered a great deal of pasta options with bread and two bottles of wine: red and white. This restaurant is located on the same street where Tupac Shakur was gunned down, little did we know. Throughout our dinner, we indulged heartily and made it a point of disrupting everyone within our corner of the restaurant, after which we invited them up to our condo suite to party. But not before we had stopped at a liquor store to stock up.
As this blog title suggests, Las Vegas is an amusement park for adults. I'm told now that Las Vegas has been nearly empty, dead because of the pot-shots taken by President Trump, aimed at Canada, and given that many Canadians travel every year to Las Vegas. The tourism business is down in the United States, and it is due to Canadians boycotting travel to the USA. Admittedly, I, too, have not been inspired to travel into the US since Mr. Trump assumed office. Restrictions on travel, crossing borders by car, the investigation of identity papers are all contributing toward pushing tourists away, to the point that they calculate some $5.4 billion in revenue has been lost in 2025 in the U.S. and this represents 20-30% of their business gleaned from the tourist dollar.
I didn't want to make this a political post, to bring politics into the picture, but it just goes to show you that even if you have a great city like Las Vegas a mere stone's throw-away from some Canadians, they're not willing to spend dollars to support an administration that is actively picking fights with allies, trading partners and pretty much every Western democracy in the world. Does it make sense? Of course not! When does a leader whose government and leader behave like an oligarchy make any sense to a democracy?
This year in 2026, I plan to take another adventure trip. My options are Tunisia, Tokyo, or Tanzania in order that I can enjoy the beaches in Zanzibar. But lately I'm also being pulled to Malta, a tiny archipelago located in the central Mediterranean between Sicily and the North African coast. Dubai is also becoming an increasingly popular country to visit, yet I'm sitting on the fence in this regard. Some friends who've traveled into Dubai were not amused, while others found it atrociously expensive.
Isn't all travel expensive, like cars, houses and kids?
When you'd rather spend your money visiting new cities and countries vs pouring your money into a new SUV or a house, your options to my mind are just as important. An experience cannot have a price-tag because when you return to your normal life, the memories will sustain you for the rest of your life.
It helps too if you're like me. I select one or two photos of every trip and have these blown up and laminated, in order that I may add them to my current laminates collection, hung up on my living room walls, to remind me of the fun times I've had.
2026 is giving me goose-bumps, just thinking about a new trip.
So the very old story goes in The Bible, as written in one of my long-term books that I've been reading on and off for years, The Sacred Origins of Profound Things (dealing with the world's religions) that when the contemporary thinking Eve decided to take a wee bite of an apple plucked from the Tree of Knowledge, God was so enraged that he punished Eve by giving her a monthly period. The monthly curse was to remind Eve of her wickedness and not only that, he wanted her to suffer further with abdominal pain along with headaches and uncontrollable mood swings.

Drenched, subtle, perversely decadent,

Sublimely medicinal.

Decisions. Guilt. Not at all.
His clipped, staccato speech was apropos.
The proprietor:
"70% purity is good. We only sell the best".
“Mmm,” I said. “Do you eat some regularly?
"Stupid question. Every day. Made from scratch".
Matter of fact.

Oh, what the Hell.
I'll take that one. And those for later.
I just need a little something to tide me over.
Seems I'm feeling a tad blue today.
It's close to suppertime, you know.
We learn from our parents. Kids of the same sex as their parent are most influenced by the same parent, rather than the other way around, where a mother can greatly influence a son or how a father can greatly influence the daughter. That is also true, to an extent of course, but not to the same degree that a mother is able to imprint on her daughter or the manner in which a father imprints on his son.
Fascinations are like the seasons, forever in a state of flux and duty bound by virtue of their intrinsic nature to change, never repeating the same cycle twice in exactly the same manner. Fascinations are when we become taken with someone or something that we haven't necessarily set out to do.
