How to be a complete and total flake

2025-09-09
Run away quickly, my left-brain thinking friends. Yes! This means you! You're one of those who is stubbornly stuck in that logical bent and frame of mine that feels the world should only make sense if a scientist says so. It is not always so, my friend. In fact, many would disagree with the left-thinking brains.

Like many right-thinking brains, of which I am proud to be one, subjects pertaining to the nebulous realm of dreams and the supernatural fascinate me to no end. I guess because there are aspects of my mind that I'm not always in control of, such as directing my dreams, or in the case when I have verbal brain farts and what comes out of my mouth was not intended in the first place, such as when I've imbibed too much red wine and I tell people what I really think. You know... that old expression, which I first heard in play that I had caught live in London, England that starred John Malkovich, "Thinking and drinking is more dangerous than drinking and driving." To that, I will concur. 😅

Science teaches us to examine, to scrutinize to the tenth degree, analyze, re-analyze, then determine and finally pass judgement, only after research and controlled experiments have been carried out, proven multiple times over. Whereas, in the world of non-science, that is in the neverland world of fantasy, we are free to roam and romp to our hearts content, conjuring up all these lovely and fanciful notions that give way to imagination and whimsy. I like both worlds. In fact, I read scientific articles online as well as books devoted to scientific analysis but I also like fantasy. Before I die, I do not want anyone to point the finger at me and tell me that my mind was completely closed to one mode of thought. When this day happens, I shall already be six feet under.

And whether or not something actually extraordinary happens to you today, you may or may not still be alive or just dead, and then what on earth will you have to care about? Nobody will care about your thoughts when you're dead, or how you lived your life, what you've left behind, how big was your house, or how much you could have done or should have done. But they'll care about what you were a part of while you were alive, as should you.

How you think today will surely shape your tomorrow. I only ask that you keep your mind open to new concepts, even the outrageous ones. Meanwhile, the scientists will have their noses buried in a pile of dusty old books and they'll be the ones to remind you that indeed the sky is falling, so you better run, run, run and hide before you die.

So for today, because after all, it is a wonderful day, why not live as a flake and have some fun?

Maybe on your way home from work you'll stop and bend over, to pick up a fallen feather, gather up some luck, and bump into a man with a crooked cigarette hanging out of his mouth, who whispers into your ear, "Black is back," and this will inspire you to dash to the nearest casino, to place it all on black, standing there gawking, your eyes mesmerized with your fingers and toes crossed, watching the croupier spin the wheel.

You just never know...
