The Family Tree

2025-11-10
"Are we not sacred?" asked the tree of the child.

That your world may thrive, we blanket the planet in hues of warmest green.

That your lungs may breathe, we exhale precious oxygen to nourish the air.

That your words may survive to teach, we transform our skin into paper.

That your shelters may be built, we relinquish our bodies to become two by fours.

That your communities may rejoice, we nest sweet angels to enrich you with song.

That your lovers may dream, we shade easy slumber under a crown of leaves.

The glory of light shines above us, while we dance the dance of the sacred eternal, the dance of stalwart silence watching.

"I don't know those big words," said the child to the tree. "Did you see how high I can climb?"
