If you're active on social networks, in this surely twisted world of interconnectivity, you'll understand what I mean when I say it's a level of exposure to one element of the world that oscillates between two realms, sometimes like a seesaw that bounces up and down, and sometimes like a snake that sidewinds, more often the latter, more than I'd necessarily like.
Dipping your baby toes into these social caldrons feels a bit too much when you take a steep fall into a well of vitriol. I've learned too that these social networks help me to remain current with the times—a pulse of vibrational and collective thought that is like holding up a mirror to how persons think, and for this reason, I've remained. I truly want to know how men think, as much as I want to be exposed to how women think. I don't always enjoy attempting to fathom everyone's cockamamie thinking, any more than they probably enjoy mine. There are duplicitous persons in this world, too many if you ask me, and you don't need to be on these social networks to feel this reality. You can easily encounter persons of this ilk merely by going into work every day.
Slippery people abound.
The bonus in dipping my baby toes into the pond is knowing that I'm not engaging face-to-face with the slippery persons of this world who are not grounded in reality, but who nonetheless are often representative of the majority. Yet, at the same time, I relate with those who refuse to engage in online networks, and these don't necessarily mean social networks. Sometimes the individual is referring to the world of online dating. Recently, I read one guy's comments who was complaining about how dating APPs have changed, drastically so, and that they're no longer the same place, and cannot provide meaningful experiences. And isn't this just the very reason why we're all alive, to inject meaning into our lives?
There are too many phonies out there, and finding a new relationship has become problematic. I say that if it's a partner you're in the hunt for, and you're a man, then you'll be going to the right place if you join a book club, where women typically make up at least 90% of the members. Book clubs engage regularly online but will also meet in person, sometimes once a month or every three months. Dip your baby toe into this pond gradually. Test the water. If you feel that it's not shark-infested, then dive in and wait and see what happens.
My baby toes are well-treated, and painted with pretty colors. I give myself pedicures on a regular basis. I also log into my social accounts on a regular basis with some exceptions being TikTok, one that I had never signed onto from the outset. Nor am I interested in participating in some of the newer social networks that are right-wing, like Truth Social. There's Rumble, an alternative media and video sharing platform to allow persons who've been demonetized on YouTube to continue to share videos. The difference being that Rumble is a site devoted to free expression and it remains popular with regard to political commentary. If you've been reading my blog posts, you'll know that I posted about exercising your rights to demonstrate, where I highlighted the Freedom Convoy in Ottawa, Canada. The platform Rumble had showcased videos of the Trump sons promoting within their American borders a discourse that could best be described as disruptive, to urge American truckers to drive across the border, and head to Ottawa, to assist Canadian truckers in taking over our city. I had also read about this vis-a-vis an online newspaper, and it was covered in an investigative journalism show too.
The top global network platforms have remained unchanged with the same high-profile players like YouTube, Facebook (Meta), as well as TikTok and X (formerly Twitter), Instagram (IG) and WhatsApp, along with some professional networks like LinkedIn, Reddit, and Discord. Threads and BlueSky are viewed as emerging alternatives. To say that I engage on all of them would be inaccurate, though I like where Threads is going, to focus on social issues, discussions that range from a variety of male and female issues, to just plain old dragging others into the mud, when it comes to the never-ending war between the sexes. I had my fingers caught in their cookie jar, however, when I posted an explicit erotic poem on my thread, which was removed, but which had been up for at least four months, before their algos caught it. 😜
I get some of my best laughs by accessing my social network accounts.
What I've personally observed are friends and family will limit their exposure to these sites by cherry-picking only one or two, mostly notably TikTok for Millennials or Facebook and IG.
I find it ironic that these same persons are the ones who don't engage in phone calls and prefer to text, or rather to get-together in person, sporadically. Here I differ. I don't post personal photos of family, not even with friends. I try to limit this level of exposure, though I admit to viewing their pictures. I cannot comprehend why anyone would post pictures of their newborn or kids, given the proliferation of human trafficking. Yet, and prior to these social networks coming into being, human trafficking was still a thing before they came along, only now there are more avenues available with which to predate on the innocent.
So if you have time on your hands, as I do at this present stage in my life, I will parcel out my time to write my new novel, and to engage some professionals on certain networks. Were it not for X, I wouldn't have discovered the awesome work of my graphic designer
@fantasy_art_z
who had designed the cover and media materials, like my banners, for my seventh novel POM. I'd been searching for over five years and the X algo one day streamed some tweets into mine, of which my graphic designer was one, and the rest is history.
I'm less inclined now, however, to continue to dip my baby toes into the new social networks, the ones that you'll hear rumblings about. They're not fully launched and successful to the point of being able to usurp the big mamas and papas that we use today. There are, of course, celebrities who proudly declare that they have zero profiles. I take my hat off to them. Keep in mind, though, these same persons might have an agency or publicist doing the work for them, where others have to rely on themselves to promote their art.
To each his or her own.
Keep them toes polished to a shine in your own damn good time, I say. However, and having said all that, I'd feel like a hypocrite for posting an image of a baby's toes, so instead I'll treat you to an image of Fenestraria Baby Toes, a succulent plant, officially known as Fenestraria rhopalophylla, which are native to sub-tropical desert zones. I just learned something new today. Yay!
Don't those cute little green baby toes look pretty?
Upcoming Event I hope to make an appearance at the Ottawa Romance Book Fair, when a date is officially announced for 2027. This is a one-day event held at the Conference Centre, so check back soon for updates.
