Luck is one of those nebulous words that has a wide range of implications. What one person feels is lucky another might construe as happenstance. Luck is not there for everyone because if you were to ponder the situation on a global level, those born and forced to live out their lives in developing countries could hardly be considered lucky, when compared to the opulence of some European and Arab countries, to include the wealth of North America. We regard luck as a facet of our personalities, based on our life experiences and whether or not luck has been our friend or our foe.
Of course, a gambler would tell you there is such a thing as lady luck or that with every winning spin of the wheel, your luck will eventually fade. I, myself, believe in that adage: your brain can only take you so far and your luck will always runs out! So, be prepared to ride the rough spots in your life with a positive attitude and courage. For as that adage goes, luck will eventually run out but by the same token, your luck can change, when you least expect it. And then we come to the nefarious, evil-doer love, that whimsical state of mind that instantly reduces an intelligent person into a blithering idiot who's recently fallen head-over-heels in love. Would that be called luck? Would luck have anything to do with the attraction chemicals being emitted from the body that pull one person closer to a total stranger? Perhaps. Perhaps luck played a small roll in two people stumbling across one another, without a grand design by the Universe, but I would call this coincidence and coincidence is most assuredly not luck. No, my friends; there may be fleeting moments of luck at gaming tables and then there is reality when it comes to love.
I don't particularly believe in being lucky in love because to believe in such a notion one must also assume the opposite is true that people are unlucky in love. And consequently, my logic brings me back to that circular place where I'm motivated to ask: Do you become lucky in love after your divorce, or were you lucky in love before the marriage?
Luck has nothing to do with poetry and poetry has everything to do with love. Luck has everything to do with idiosyncratic circumstance and has nothing to do with the brilliant formation of poetic words. None of us possesses the power to decide at the beginning of the day, "Today my luck will be with me and therefore I shall win the lottery." If it were that simple, every lottery corporation would go bust. We can wish for luck and wish luck on those before stepping onto the stage or before putting on that gold wedding band. We can regard ourselves as lucky in the midst of turmoil while we wait for our luck to return.
It's difficult to believe in luck and love yet I want luck to be with me when I look for promising employment opportunities, which is a pretty safe bet when most people are out of work, looking for a new situation. Though, and after years in the work force, I know finding a new job often depends on who you know, not necessarily what you know or how lucky you've been in your life. Love, too, can often come across as a form of brain damage, given how some people are turned inside out when that love goes off the rails; they're crazed and prepared to hurt their supposed love, even kill them. I read about the incidences online all the time; how he murdered her after she rejected him. To be the object of an ex's new found hate, well surely they've no good reason to feel lucky.
Every time you board a flight, every time you drive in a car or ride a bike or skateboard in the middle of a road, or get onto a speedboat, there's always a chance that something could go wrong. Our luck is random, as are our accidents; the first we welcome and the other we push out of our minds, refusing to believe that we could be so unlucky as to die, or be injured. Accidents can injure you, as can love. Whereas, luck is more of a well-wishing statement to make to your dear friend, lover, family member as they venture off to hike a mountain and, hopefully, not fall off in the process.
I wish you luck in your future endeavours. 🍀🍀🍀
